Current Volunteers and Open Roles
Thor Berggren - In the Spring of 2006, Berggren developed the CanDiego concept, web site, graphics, and Linked-in professional group. During the first year, he coordinated and promoted events and activites (enabling the membership to grow to over 1,000) and secured intial sponsors. He has received help and advice along the way from a close circle of friends and volunteers including the CanDiego co-founders. His current challenge is to lead CanDiego into becoming a sustainable non profit organization.
Berggren, a Vancouver native, is a graduate of Simon Fraser University and holds an honors degree in Electronics Engineering which included a concentration in business management. His career experience is focused in advanced technology, managing teams in marketing, sales, and engineering. Berggren can be contacted by email at thor@candiego.org.
President and Social / Volunteer Coordinator
Teena Singh joined CanDiego in May 2007 and works at Oracle Corporation where she designs HRMS software. Teena grew up in Pincher Creek, AB. She obtained both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, AB. She also obtained a Master's in Industrial Relations (specializing in HRMS Systems) from Queen's University in Kingston, ON. In addition to living in Pincher Creek, Edmonton and Kingston, Teena has also lived in Cereal, AB, Medicine Hat, AB, Prince George, BC, and Vancouver, BC. Teena moved to San Diego in 2007 from San Francisco and also holds a position on the Executive Committee of Digital Moose Lounge. Teena can be reached at teena@candiego.org.
Director at Large
Chris Montgomery is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and its San Diego alumni rep. Also a graduate of the University of Toronto, Chris was born in the U.S., but lived in Canada for 20 years. He has resided in California since 1999. He has been at the forefront of digital music revolution, holding positions at BMG Entertainment, Diamond Multimedia and as CEO of MP3.com Europe. Director, Finance
John Mousmoules joined CanDiego in June of 2007. Born and raised in Toronto. John attended both the University of Western Ontario and York University, graduating from York with an Honor's Bachelor of Administrative Studies in Finance and Accounting. As a Certifed Public Accountant and a Certified Management Accountant, John held Director and Treasurer positions for non-profit organizations in the past. He is currently practising public accounting for Runke & Singh CPA's. He can be reached at john@candiego.org.
Director, Non Profit Coordinator and Legal Counsel
Derek Lobo joined CanDiego in June of 2007. Born in Uganda, Derek grew up in Toronto where his family immigrated in 1972. After getting his bachelors degree from the University of Toronto, Derek moved to San Diego to attend California Western School of Law in 1991. Since graduating, Derek has been practicing law in the San Diego area in the fields of Estate Planning, and Business Law. He is currently a partner in the law firm of Page, Lobo & Costales.Derek has formed and served on the board of directors of a number of local nonprofit organizations, including The Angels Depot, So Kids Can Dream, and San Diego Floor Hockey. Director, Professional Events
Kush Kapila joined CanDiego in October 2007. Born and raised in Montreal, Kush received his Bachelor of Computer Science degree from McGill University. He also received his Master's degree in Bioinformatics from Concordia University where he collaborated with members of IBM Watson Research Center. Since graduating Kush has worked at Matrox Imaging and has travelled worldwide. Kush has organized and participated in many volunteer events including benefit concerts (Parkinson's, Breast Cancer) and fundraising events (United Way, Tsunami relief). He moved to San Diego in December 2006 and currently works at Accelrys as a Support Scientist. He can be reached at kush@candiego.org.
Director, Membership Communications
Rina Jain joined CanDiego in November 2007. She grew up in St. John's and Toronto, and graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Toronto. She then trained in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Toronto. Rina has been in practice as an orthopaedic surgeon at San Diego Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Centre since December 2002. She has been a volunteer/mentor with various mentorship organizations for undergraduate university and medical students seeking careers in medicine. She is affiliated with the UCSD School of Medicine as a Clinical Instructor. She can be reached at rina@candiego.org.
